The gegants (giants) of Prince Peter of Aragon and Blanche of Anjou.
Construction of the gegants of L’Hospitalet de l’Infant was an important step in the recovery of popular tradition and was an endeavour of the entity Foment Cultural with support from the Town Hall. The gegants of Prince Peter of Aragon and Blanche of Anjou are a tribute to the town’s roots or the Gothic hospital that Prince Peter ordered to be constructed in the 14th century and represents the town’s inception.
These gegants were used for the first time in 1990 and are the work of:
– Design and coordination: Ramon Ferran, sculptor (Reus)
– Creator: Marcel Socias (Tarragona)
– Clothing: Pilar Liesa (La Riera de Gaià) and Montserrat Grau (Nulles)
– Crowns: Joaquim Solé, jeweller (Reus)
